Breaking News: Samsung Ventures into Laptop Manufacturing in India

Samsung, the renowned tech giant, is all set to dip its toes into the laptop manufacturing pool right here in India! According to insider sources, the company’s top brass spilled the beans about their grand plans to kickstart laptop production at their Noida facility later this year. This revelation comes hot on the heels of Samsung’s successful stint in churning out smartphones from the same Indian soil.

TM Roh, the Mobile Division President of Samsung, couldn’t contain his excitement as he spilled the beans during a recent media rendezvous. “Noida holds a special place in Samsung’s heart, being our second-largest base. We’re all geared up to give our laptops the same treatment, albeit with a sprinkle of desi tadka,” he remarked.

Speculations had been rife since last September about Samsung’s intentions to roll out laptops from its Indian hub, but it seems the stars weren’t quite aligned back then. Fast forward to today, and the company has finally greenlit its Indian laptop venture, much to the delight of tech enthusiasts across the nation.

But hold your horses; this news comes on the heels of another exciting revelation – Samsung’s plans to manufacture its coveted Galaxy S24 series right here in India! With this move, Samsung aims to not only cater to the local market but also spread its wings globally, ensuring a double whammy of delight for Samsung aficionados everywhere.

Now, rewind to August 2023 when the government decided to throw a spanner in the works by imposing restrictions on laptop imports. Apple, HP, and of course, Samsung, were left scratching their heads, contemplating their next move. But fear not, dear readers, for just when things seemed bleak, the government did a volte-face, sparing the tech giants the agony of navigating through import licensing woes. Phew, talk about a rollercoaster ride!

And let’s not forget the PLI 2.0 scheme for IT hardware announced with much fanfare last May. With a whopping outlay of Rs. 17,000 crore, it’s no wonder that big players like Samsung are eyeing India with renewed interest. The numbers don’t lie – a significant drop in laptop imports from $7.37 billion to $5.33 billion speaks volumes about India’s growing prowess in the tech manufacturing arena.
