OpenAI, the men behind ChatGPT, have launched a cool new tool called Sora. It can make realistic videos from just text and photos! Isn’t that awesome?
Sora can create videos up to a minute long based on what you tell it. You can describe the style and topic you want, and it’ll make the video for you. It’s like magic!
According to OpenAI, Sora can even use still images or videos you provide as a reference. They’re teaching Sora to understand how things move in the real world, which is pretty amazing.

For example, OpenAI showed off a prompt they gave Sora: “Make a movie trailer about a 30-year-old space explorer wearing a red helmet, with blue skies and a desert in the background. Make it look cinematic, shot on fancy film, with lots of vibrant colors.” And guess what? Sora made it happen!
But hold on, you can’t just jump in and start using Sora. It’s only available to researchers and content creators right now. OpenAI wants to make sure people use it responsibly. They don’t want any violence, sexy stuff, mean pictures, or stealing other people’s stuff going on.
After they launched Sora, Sam Altman, the big boss at OpenAI, shared some videos on social media that Sora made based on people’s requests. The videos have a little watermark to show they’re made by AI.
Other big companies like Google and Meta are also trying to make AI that does similar things to Sora. But OpenAI seems to be ahead of the game with its super-realistic videos.
Sora isn’t for everyone yet, though. OpenAI hasn’t spilled all the beans about how it works or how they made it. Right now, it’s only being used internally to test stuff and make sure it’s working right.

Speaking of testing, OpenAI is also working on tools to figure out if a video was made by AI or not. They want to make sure people can trust what they see online.
So, while Sora isn’t available to the public yet, it’s still pretty exciting to think about what we could do with AI making videos for us. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll all be directing our own movies with just a few words!
