Once upon a time in Mumbai, there lived a man who became everyone’s favorite on the radio. His name was Amin Sayani. He had a special way of speaking that people loved. But sadly, Amin Sayani passed away at the age of 91. His son Razil said he had a heart attack and couldn’t be saved. His last rites would be held on Thursday.

Amin Sayani was famous for hosting a radio show called Geetmala for a whopping 42 years, from 1952 to 1994. This show became super popular all over India because of him. Even Prime Minister Modi praised him, saying he changed Indian broadcasting forever.

Amin Sayani wasn’t always a radio star. He started his career doing English shows for ten years. But then he switched to Hindi and found his true calling. He was born in Mumbai on 21 December 1932 and came from a family that spoke many languages.

His most famous show, Geetmala, started in 1952. It was only 30 minutes long but became a huge hit. People couldn’t wait for Wednesday nights to hear Amin Sayani’s voice announcing the top songs of the year. He had a special way of introducing each song that made everyone feel like he was their friend.

Amin Sayani’s voice wasn’t just on the radio. He also appeared in movies as a radio announcer. He interviewed famous stars like Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, and Raj Kapoor, which made him even more popular.

But did you know he once turned down meeting Amitabh Bachchan? Back when Amitabh was just starting out, he wanted to meet Amin Sayani, but Sayani refused without even hearing him. Later, he heard Amitabh’s voice and joked that people would be scared to hear it.

Amin Sayani wasn’t just famous for Geetmala. He set a record for doing voiceovers in 5 thousand radio programs and hosting more than 54 thousand shows. He even got into the Limca Book of World Records for doing 19 thousand jingles and voiceovers.

Even though Amin Sayani is no longer with us, his legacy lives on through his incredible work on the radio. He brought joy to millions of listeners and will always be remembered as a true legend of Indian broadcasting.
