Suriya, the actor, couldn’t make it to Vijayakanth’s funeral but paid his respects at the DMDK party headquarters where the late actor is laid to rest. Visibly emotional, Suriya spent time at Vijayakanth’s grave, shedding tears and garnering support online.
Being out of town during Vijayakanth’s funeral on December 29 due to his busy schedule shooting for “Kanguva,” Suriya expressed regret for not being able to see Vijayakanth’s face one last time. He shared, “The guilt that I couldn’t see his face for the one last time is going to be around for a lifetime in me and Karthi.”
Actor Karthi accompanied Suriya during this emotional visit. Suriya spoke to the media, mentioning the influence Vijayakanth had on him, recalling the advice to sit only on a wooden chair, a practice he continues on sets. Expressing the irreplaceable loss, he hoped for a tribute in the film industry in Vijayakanth’s memory, thanking the media for bringing back fond memories.
Suriya’s father, Shivakumar, also paid his respects to Vijayakanth. The duo shared the screen in the 1999 film “Periyanna,” where Vijayakanth’s extended cameo helped boost Suriya’s publicity, reminiscent of a similar favor done by Captain for Vijay in “Sendhoorapandi.”
Vijayakanth, who succumbed to a Covid-19 infection on December 28 at MIOT Hospital in Chennai, left a void in the film industry. Suriya, acknowledging the loss, praised the media for focusing on positive memories amidst the prevailing negativity.
